Author lived on the edge of the Sioux Indian Reservation in Dakota Territory from 1884 to 1894, becoming an authority on signs. Book represents permanent record of signs; very few books on this ever published. Includes alphabetical listings, with corresponding drawings; examples of sentence formation; use of idioms. French and German equivalents shown with each illustration. Officially adopted by the Boy Scouts of America, and endorsed and recommended by Scouting founder, Sir Robert Baden Powell; includes camp fire ceremonies, Troop Meeting programs, plays for use by Boy Scouts. Endorsed by Smithsonian Institute, YMCA, Girl Scouts, Boy Rangers, and U.S. Indian Bureau.
