Pilgrimage of Davenport, LA Council to the Birth place of Buffalo Bill

By James West

The first part of the program consisted of the raising of The Flag, the firing of a salute and the Pledge of Allegiance by the entire body of Scouts.  Then we had a speech on the life of Cody by a Civil War Veteran.  After the speech we pledged ourselves anew to the Oath and were dismissed.  During all this time there was a thin drizzling rain which froze as it fell.  On the way back to LeClaire we halted for lunch.  Each Scout carried his own and in a short time, in spite of inclement weather, there were cheerful fires going, and Scout groups scattered over the snowy hillside were busy preparing their favorite hiking rations.  In the meantime, the Davenport group set up archery targets and, after luncheon, assembly was sounded and the archery demonstration was put on.
