BSA High Adventure!

Okpik is an Official BSA High Adventure Program like Philmont or the National Jamboree.  Okpik is also the official state-of-the-art training course designed to give adult Scouters and Junior Leaders confidence in taking a small group into a cold environment and supporting a year-round camping program. The course consists of three weekend expeditions with each outing building on the skills learned in the previous level.

Cold-weather camping is any camping that takes place when the high temperature of the day is 50 degrees F or below.  Okpik covers the skills and techniques that must be learned and the planning that must be done to ensure a safe, successful, and fun cold-weather camping experience.  These include physical preparation, clothing, food and water, sanitation practices, first aid and emergency procedures, shelter and shelter building, methods of travel in snow, and making equipment.
