ADC: Assistant District Commissioner Air Troops: A Group whose program is based on flying and flight activities (Air Troop, Senior Air Troop, & Air Rover Crew) AOL: Assistant Otter Leader APFL: Assistant youth member Leader (see PFL) APL: Assistant Patrol Leader (Patrol Second) ARL: Assistant Rover Leader ASC: Assistant State Commissioner ASM: Assistant Scoutmaster ASPFL: Assistant Senior youth member Leader (see SPFL) ATWM: Assistant TimberWolf Master Billy: a small cooking pot about 1.5 to 4 quarts, and made of a jam tin. Traditionally a billy would be used for boiling water for soup, tea or coffee. CC: Chief Commissioner COH: Court of Honor. The COH is the meeting of Patrol Leaders in which Troop programs and policy is decided. The Court of Honor is known as the "Patrol Leaders' Council" in one American Scouting association. DC: District Commissioner Dixie: a large cooking pot with a volume of 2-5 gallons [10 to 20 liters] and usually made of cast iron, similar to a Dutch oven. Typically one could cook a chicken in a dixie. Explorer: Includes any Otter, TimberWolf Cub, Explorer, Senior Explorer, or Rover in the British Columbia program. Group: The complete unit is called a "Group", even if lacking one or more of the following Youth Sections: (1) Otter Pack, (2) TimberWolf Pack, (3) Scout Troop, (4) Senior Scout Troop, (5) Rover Crew. The Adult Sections are (6) Group Council, and (7) Group Committee. GSM: Group Scouter: The Leader who, with the approval of the DC is in charge of a Group. Leader: Any person who holds a Warrant of Appointment. Member: Any youth or Adult who ascribes to the PO&R and who has satisfied the membership requirements of this Association. OL: Otter Leader PFL: Pathfinder Leader (Adult in Charge of PF Section) PL: Patrol Leader PO&R: Policy, Organization and Rules RM: Rover Mate RS: Rover Skipper SC: State Commissioner Scouter: Includes OL, CM, PFL, SPFL, and RS - including their assistants (see abbreviations). Scout’s Own: A special time set-aside for the gathering of members to share devotions and non-sectarian spiritual reflections (Many states are blessed with Asian, East Indian, and Middle Eastern citizens of differing religions). Seafarers: A Group whose program is based on boating and water activities (Seafarers, Senior Seafarers, & Sea Rovers). Second (2nd): Second in command of a Patrol of youth members (APL); An assistant. Section: An Otter Pack, TimberWolf Cub Pack, Scout Troop, Senior Scout Troop, or Rover Crew within a Group. Senior Patrol Leader: A Senior Scout appointed by the SPFL in consultation with the Court of Honor to take charge of a Patrol of Senior Scouts. SHQ: State Headquarters Sixer: A TimberWolf Cub appointed by the TWM to lead a Six of TimberWolf Cubs. Sixes: A division of a TimberWolf Pack consisting of six Cubs. SPFL: Senior Youth member Leader (Adult in Charge of Senior Path Finder Section) SPL: Senior Patrol Leader (a Patrol Leader in the Senior Section) Sponsoring Authority: The person or Committee appointed by the "Sponsoring Body" to exercise its functions with respect to such a Group. Known in some Scouting associations as the "Charter Representative." TL: Troop Leader, Scout in charge of Troop. Known in other Scouting associations as an SPL. See POR: Troop Leader. TWM: TimberWolf Master WFIS: World Federation of Independent Scouts WFIS – NA: World Federation of Independent Scouts – North American Council Woodcraft: "…the knowledge of animals and nature." as defined in Scouting for Boys by Baden-Powell. |
