Baden-Powell Scouts Association PROMISE AND LAW

THE SCOUT PROMISE: Foundation of the Baden-Powell Scouts Association; the only condition of membership.

Promise must be taken by all Scouters without any actual or mental reservations. Promise states in simple language the faith and tenets of Scouting.

The Scouters' greatest contribution comes with the training of the Scout Promise and Law. These are the foundations of BP Scouting, and no child is a member of the same, or no adult is a Scouter, until the Promise has been taken.

It must be the task of the Group Scoutmaster, and the Group Council to give constant thought to the training of the Promise and Law (Beaver & Cub inclusive), for on this depends the tone of every section within the Group. It is to be feared that in some Groups this takes place when the child is being invested, and then dropped out of sight.

P.O.R. states; Before the 2nd Class / 1st Class Badge(s) is awarded, the S.M. will ensure that the 'Scout' understands the Promise and Law in accordance with 'his' age and development; and is a satisfactory member of 'his' Patrol

It is for the G.S.M. to give the lead to the Group Council and exercise cons

"On my honour I promise that I will do my best -
To do my duty to God and to the Queen,
To help other people at all times and
To obey the Scout Law."

If Scouting helps to lift the world's morals from the slough into which they have fallen, it's contribution to the human race, and the Kingdom of God will be incalculable....
