IV LIMBERING UP EXERCISES The idea of establishing a Troop standard in the matter of physical fitness should if possible be sold to the Patrol Leaders at the Court of Honor. This need not be taken at all seriously, but there would be no harm in encouraging the boys to " limber up " before breakfast by offering a simple points system which would enable the Patrols to qualify for " The Flea " the symbol of physical fitness or some similar light hearted trophy. Points would be awarded for each of the following, which must however be completed before breakfast and certified by the Patrol Leader : Run round a given course (say half a mile) in a given time.
As a Patrol, carry out the full series of Partner,~ Contests " illustrated on page 20 PATROL BOOKS No. 1. Cover a mile at Scout's Pace. Skip one hundred. If any younger members of the staff are up to it, the best possible impression will undoubtedly be created if they voluntarily enter for the " Fitness Award." A hot drink, or hot porridge from the overnight haybox, should be served before the boys embark on any, of these exercises. |
